Ngulchu Gyalse Thogmed Zangpo’s The Thirty Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva is one of Tibetan Buddhism’s most popular texts, incorporated in the Mind Training text and also able to be explained according to the Lam Rim tradition. Its advice is timeless and its relevance is universal.
This commentary by His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, as expounded during Kalachakra teachings at Bodh Gaya, is characterised by its clarity, practicality and profundity. Each stanza of the root text is elucidated precisely and in accessible language.
In addition, His Holiness the Dalai Lama gives introductory talks at the start of each day of teaching in which he touches on every aspect of our daily lives. Studying this text leads us to feel that His Holiness is speaking directly to each one of us, and it is universal in its application.

Excellent reading for those practicing, or otherwise interested in Buddhism generally but particularly the Mahayana, aka Bodhisattvayana, or Vajrayana. The teacher is essentially flawless. And the teaching on the mid-length Lojong (The Training of the (Selfless, Compassionate) Mind) is as good as it gets in my limited experience--except, perhaps, for a two-page poetic summary that the Lama introduced and then concluded as follows:"I, the tulku named Chagdud, this affectionate old man, am inspired by my love for you [my students] to write down this message and send it to you on the steed of air. Look upon it....
"For me, Chagdud, burdened with the weight of my years, this hard-wrought old body, weathers storms of unbalanced elements, yet I am not injured....Whatever I have done, I am happy, a yogin of illusion, who offers this to you in an expansive and cheerful frame of mind. Please look upon this with delight. May it be stamped indelibly in your minds!" ©.
I am bold to say that His Holiness The Dalai Lama was in a similar frame of mind when he offered this wonderful teaching to us.
