I've been doing nature-oriented macro photography off and on for many years and have many books on the subject. In the course of upgrading my skills and equipment for a special multi-year project, I've also purchased most of the current books on the topic. Of the more than 15 books on my shelf on macro and close-up photography, this is easily the best introduction. It gets right to the basics of this type of photography and provides very straightforward, yet timeless lessons in how to do it. The book has simplicity and wisdom and is written unusually clearly. Lots of advice on how to do macro and closeup without breaking the bank! If I were asked to recommend one book to someone starting to get interested in the macro world and needing to do macro photography for a job, hobby or vocation, this would be it.Product details

Great buy.
.. I found it to be a bit short. For the price I paid, a lot of this info I had already found on YouTube and several photo blogs. Still, it's nice to have on my fire as a reference when out shooting.
As one with a new Macro lens to learn, I find the information easily understood, with frequent examples. Different aspects of macro photography are well described & often illustrated. I especially like the tips & the suggestions for additional gear. The small size of the book & the 'lay flat' pages are really a plus!
David Busch's book Close-Up & Macro Photography Compact Field Guide is an outstanding book. Explains in layman's terms about macro photography. Would like to see all books bound in the new lay-flat, spiral-bound method. I enjoyed reading this book and couldn't put it down until I got to the last page. Would like to thank David and Rob for this great book also for carrying it.

Great tips. Not only on macro photography but also on photography in general. It's a very well written and useful book. After I read my copy, I ordered two more as gifts.
Although brief, Busch's book covers the essentials that most amateur photographers will look for. He covers technical issues fully without devoting too much ink to the exotic lenses and other gadgets on the market. I'd say the treatment of such things as composition and light are good and informative, but they do no go very far into the artistic considerations of Close-Up photography, but there are other books for that.
